Income is Lower Today Than in 1990 For Many Americans

Income for the bottom 5% compared to top 5 percent from 1990 to 2013 From 1990 until 2013, average income for the bottom 5% of Americans has declined. This is during the same time that income increased for those at the top.

In the period from 1990 until 2013, the average yearly household income for the lowest 5% declined from $12,381 to $11,651, while the average yearly income of the top 5 percent increased from $239,739 to $322,343.
